The first look from Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2011, of course worn by Karlie Kloss on the runway. Let’s be real, I’m obsessed. I got the amazing opportunity to meet Prabal in October at Teen Vogue Fashion University, and I have been keeping up with him since then. His show is definitely my favorite so far for this Fashion Week, no competition at all. The criss-cross tights and flowy skirts are killer, and his color choices are super classic, even the surprising pink and red mix… I love it. Also it’s pretty great that Anna Wintour and Amy Astley were seen at his show. AND Jenna Lyons was too, which is super fabulous, since I work for J.Crew, so I love that she is supporting him! I’m eager to see what he comes up with next!

Happy Fashion Week! It’s one of my favorite times of the year, of course. I’ll be watching every possible one online, that is for sure. I’m eager to see what designers have in mind for Fall!
I feel super hardcore, I have to re-stitch my ballet shoes.
Well, we’ll get around to it when the sky turns blue, but
‘Til then it’s gonna have to wait
We’ll do it, we’ll go outside
But we can’t turn off the rain
And it’s hard to be patient when you’re waiting at the station
Worrying never did anything
We’ll do it, but we can’t turn off the rain

LOVE them. Can’t wait til tonight.

So, this semester, I am taking 4 classes. Monday/Wednesday/Friday, I have my costume construction class and my public speaking class. On Tuesday/Thursday, I have my apparel design construction class and English. Notice anything? Oh just the fact that I am literally sewing every day during the week. It’s AMAZING, and I couldn’t be more obsessed with it, but since I pretty clumsy, I do tend to pin and poke myself on a regular basis. In costume class, I have been working on buttons and snaps and all of that fun stuff on a few of the costumes for King Lear (which opens next week), and the other day I kept poking myself while stitching a snap. It got to the point where I just ignored every time it happened. But at the end, I flipped over the inside of the robe, to find that I have literally made my fingers bleed, and had gotten blood on the inside of the costume. Awesome.
So it’s kinda entertaining, I’m really obsessed with my classes. I feel like I’m actually kind of good at them, even though every day, I get a little nervous as to whether I’m doing things right, but I couldn’t ask for anything better. I feel like I am on the right track to accomplishing my goals this semester, and I’m really excited about it.
Today, I’m making the journey up to Shreveport for the weekend. I haven’t seen my family since Christmas, so I’m kinda excited about this. PLUS I’m going to be making a surprise appearance around Byrd, particularly the yearbook room, which I haven’t been back to since last summer, so I’m kinda excited.

Today is Polo Ceremony and my first day of dance class! SO excited! Don’t worry, the picture is not of me, as I haven’t danced in about.. ohh 5 years, but thats okay, I’m really excited to get back to it. I bought new ballet shoes yesterday, and I can’t wait to get in them. Congrats to all the new Ambassadors on getting their Polos today!
Today will be an inspiring day.
I don’t know what it is, but dancers have always inspired me. I danced for a little while through elementary school and middle school, and loved it, but got distracted in high school and kinda lost it. Though I never really stopped liking it, and I’ve always loved watching dancers. Also, impressionism is my favorite kind of painting and of course Degas is my favorite artist, by far. I’ve always said that if I were to ever create a fashion line by myself, my first would be inspired by Degas dancers. I would also absolutely love to intern with the New York City Ballet costumers, that would be an amazing experience in itself, as I know I want to do costumes, and dance costumes could be so fun.
Moral of the story, is that I am superbly inspired by them. All the time. Some of my favorite Alexander McQueen looks are ballerina-esque styles. I love them. And anyone who knows me knows that I can often be found wearing my go to outfit of skirts and tights.

With the recent success of Black Swan, and their amazing costumes from Rodarte, I feel like this ballerina style is only going to grow. In fact, I looked today and even the LSU Leisure ballet class has a waiting list. It’s so interesting how things like that can spark interest in people.
I’ve been working on a painting recently, and it is from a picture of Zoe Saldana on pointe from the April issue of Glamour 2008, wearing a Robert Cavalli dress. It’s really a fabulous picture, and it’s been pretty tough to paint, but my goal is to finish it this weekend so that maybe I can enter it into the student art competition hosted by the union art gallery. I doubt it will place or anything like that, but just to show something might be fun!
